A dental implant is a synthetic metallic root substitute
that is surgically placed in the jaw bone. Its application
varies from patient to patient. It may be used to
replace a single missing tooth, several missing
teeth or to provide added retention and stability
to dental appliances like partial and complete dentures.
Benefits of Dental
Implants :
Feel: Because
the dental implant integrates with the jaw bone,
the replacement of teeth and/or prosthesis with
implants feels more like natural teeth.
Support and Stability:
Implants give excellent retention and stability
to partial or complete dentures and thus eliminate
the need for denture adhesives. In most upper denture
cases the palate portion of the denture could be
eliminated so one can feel, speak and eat naturally.
Nutrition:
Because chewing capacity with complete dentures
is less than 10% than that of natural teeth and
even lower in poorly fitting dentures as a result
of poor jaw bone support; implant supported dentures
can greatly improve your chewing.
Self-esteem: Implant
supported crowns, bridges, partial and complete
dentures look and feel so much like natural teeth,
that it will improve the self-esteem and confidence
of the patient.
Unlike many dentists in the community, Dr.
Rajiv Patel is skilled in both the surgical placement
of the dental implants and the restoration of teeth
with crowns, bridges, partial dentures and complete
dentures. This is a significant advantage for the
patient who requires not only a restoration of the
natural function but also an aesthetically pleasing
smile.

Modern techniques have made it possible for nearly
everyone who is missing teeth to qualify as a candidate
for implant treatment. The determining factors are
a sufficient amount of quality bone, good oral hygiene,
and generally good health.
For patients who have already lost significant amounts
of bone, simple and predictable techniques are now
available to accomplish bone regeneration prior
to implant placement.
Prior to implant placement, the remaining teeth
and gums need to be healthy. Conscientious oral
hygiene and regular check-ups with your dentist
are also important for long-term success.
Dental Implant
Treatment
The process of replacing missing teeth with
dental implants requires a lengthy treatment. A
typical case will undergo several phases:
Phase One:
The patient’s desires are discussed in detail,
and a comprehensive evaluation of the present condition
of patient’s mouth, gums, teeth, and jaw bones,
is evaluated. At this time, impressions of teeth
or jaw bones are taken for diagnostic models.
Phase Two:
The implants are surgically
placed into the jaw bone. Bone and soft tissue manipulation
surgeries may be performed as needed before actual
surgical placement of implants. Implants are left
to heal and integrate with the bone for the period
of 4-6 months.
Phase Three: The
patient’s mouth will under go restorative
and prosthetic reconstruction. It may involve a
period of temporary restorations while permanent
restorations are being fabricated. Final restorations
or prosthetic devices like dentures are then either
cemented or screwed into place.
Phase Four: The
maintenance of the implants is required of the patient.
Very good Oral hygiene habits are most important
in order to maintain healthy and functional implants
for the longest time possible. Dental hygiene appointments
at 3-4 months intervals are highly recommended.

How
much does an implants treatment cost ?
Since the individual needs of each patient
are different, it is necessary to formulate a treatment
plan before the actual cost of treatment can be
determined. Many factors are involved in this process,
including the number of implants needed, the type
of replacement teeth desired, and possible surgical
procedures necessary to enhance the final esthetic
and functional results. Once the treatment plan
has been developed, a fee estimate is determined
taking these factors into consideration.
